What do you want to ride?
Your age and the type of bike you take your practical test determine what you can ride.
TEST on 125cc Automatic:
You can ride any automatic up to 33bhp only (most 250cc scooters) for the first two years. Then any size automatic after that. You will not be allowed to ride any manual bike, except a 125cc with L-plates.
TEST on 125cc Manual:
You can ride any bike that makes no more than 33bhp for two years, then you can ride anything. Most bikes can be restricted to 33bhp then derestricted later.
TEST on 500cc(47bhp) bike:
You can ride anything you like, no waiting, no restrictions!
What kind of licence do you have?
Full car licence issued before Feb 1, 2001
You have full 49cc moped and provisional motorcycle entitlement. You don’t need to take a CBT course to ride a 49cc moped. You can carry a passenger and don’t need L-plates. Take a CBT course and you can ride anything up to 125cc with L-plates
Full car licence issued after Feb 1, 2001
You must take a CBT before riding anything on the road. Once completed you can ride 49cc mopeds indefinitely and a 125cc for the next two years. You must display L-plates.
Provisional licence
You must compete CBT before riding a moped or motorcycle.
Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
This Government-devised one-day course will teach you the basics of riding.
It is compulsory for some riders and a great idea for anyone who is new to biking. It can be completed on a moped or motorcycle, both of which we can supply, along with the appropriate riding kit.
You will be taught five key elements, some theory but mainly practical. At first you’re trained in a controlled environment and then on the road. There’s no pass or fail, but we recommend you take our RoadRider course next.
Times: 8.30am to approx 4pm.
